RAINBOW SUN QIGONG Every Wednesday, 9:00 – 10:00 a.m. Barbara Evans-Levine Qigong (pronounced chee-gong) is an ancient Chinese mind-body-spirit practice that incorporates gentle physical postures, breathing techniques and mental focus. Qi is life force energy that flows through everything in the Universe and Gong means steady practice or cultivation. Qigong involves skillfully cultivating life force Qi while clearing and moving blocked Qi. The goal is to fill yourself and surround yourself with life-sustaining Qi - for healing, maintaining health, and aligning to one’s spirit, bringing inner peace. Fee: $7 per class Barbara Evans-Levine has studied Qigong for the last 7 years with several Qigong Masters. Barbara recently returned from China & Tibet where she was part of a Tai Chi/Qigong study tour deepening her Qigong practice. Barbara’s focus is to assist students in achieving balance and harmony in their lives by incorporating a Qigong practice, empowering their own self-healing. COMEDY IMPROV 101 Mondays OR Wednesdays, 7:00 – 9:30 p.m. Justin Lukasewicz Explore the basics of comedy improvisation! Build your understanding of team-building, trust, speed, status, active listening, and agreement in comedy. YOU can learn to be fearless and have fun on stage using this tested approach to improv comedy. No previous comedy or theater experience is necessary. This method has been taught and tested with over 12,000 students across the U.S. and is now being offered in Tucson for the first time. Group size is limited to 12 students. Class runs for 2 1/2 hours each week, often with optional “office hours” (with beverages) afterward. The goal of the Tucson Improv Movement is to develop the art of improvisational comedy to enrich the greater Tucson region. TIM is dedicated to creating a positive, collaborative environment for community members to study the art of improv and bring comedic performances to the stage. Justin recently returned to Arizona and works at the University of Arizona.

CONTINUING EDUCATION FOR MASSAGE THERAPISTS Working with PTSD as a Bodyworker Monday, May 6, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Gloria Mathiesen, LMT, NCTMB This course begins with an outline of the description, etiology, signs & symptoms, and treatment most commonly used for clients who have been diagnosed with PTSD. Next, we will look at massage considerations during treatment and what our role is with the client’s diagnosis. Last, we will close with a discussion on a special population highly affected by PTSD – the military. Discussion will involve the emotional cycle of deployment, understanding Battlemind, reactions most associated with war trauma, and separating myths and reality associated with the military family’s Homecoming. Tuition includes the publication, “Every Superhero has a Kryptonite: PTSD and the Massage Therapist.”
Using Massage & Bodywork during Addiction Rehabilitation and Recovery Tuesday, May 7, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Gloria Mathiesen, LMT, NCTMB This course begins with the most recent definitions of drugs, addiction, rehabilitation, and the different views and paths to recovery and abstinence. We will also explore modern theories and techniques used and the integration of alternative therapies. We will close by looking at massage considerations during treatment and recovery and what our role is with addiction. Tuition includes the publication, "This is Your Brain on Massage: Integrating Massage with Addiction Treatment."
Massage and Mental Health: The True Mind/Body Approach Tuesday, May 7, 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon Gloria Mathiesen, LMT, NCTMB Ever have a client ask you how massage helps them mentally? We will explore the central nervous system, specifically our sympathetic and parasympathetic systems, and how within 60 minutes we can help the mind slow down and breathe. We will also discuss how massage when integrated with a healthy lifestyle, can help manage stress, prevent chronic disease, alleviate acute anxiety and depression, all with the power of healing touch. Tuition includes the publication, “Mind, Body, & Massage: The Benefits of Massage for Mental Health." FEES: $60 per class or $150 for all three. Gloria C.
